How to sell your Range Rover

Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, SV, SVR or Velar: how each is valued, why records and warranty matter so much, and where to sell.

Range Rovers lose value quickly, and used buyers worry about repair costs. That makes two things decisive when you sell: how much warranty is left, and how complete your service records are. A Range Rover with both gets strong offers; one without needs an inspection report to counter buyer worries.

Because demand is broad, you'll usually get competitive offers locally. High-spec SV models and classic Range Rovers are the exceptions.

How buyers look at each Range Rover model

  • Range Rover (fifth generation)

    2022–present

The current flagship, with mild-hybrid six-cylinder, V8 and plug-in hybrid versions, a long-wheelbase seven-seat option and the SV range.

  • Range Rover (fourth generation)

    2013–2021

An aluminum-bodied flagship with supercharged V6 and V8 engines and the SVAutobiography. Buyers check air suspension and electronics closely.

  • Range Rover Sport

    2006–present

Three generations of the sportier model. The SVR (2015–2022) and the current SV carry clear premiums.

  • Range Rover Velar

    2018–present

The mid-size model. Priced closely on mileage, options and warranty.

  • Classic and early Range Rovers

    1970–2012

The original Range Rover Classic is a collector car, especially restored or well-preserved examples. Third-generation cars (2003–2012) sell on condition and records.

What moves the price

  1. WarrantyRemaining factory or Land Rover Approved coverage is one of the biggest factors in a Range Rover's value.
  2. Service recordsComplete dealer or specialist records. Buyers are wary of gaps.
  3. Mechanical healthAir suspension, electronics, and any warning lights. A recent inspection report helps answer buyer concerns.
  4. OptionsMeridian audio, executive-class rear seats, the long wheelbase, SV Bespoke paint and interiors, and driver-assist packs.
  5. MileagePriced closely on miles, especially for the Velar and Range Rover Sport.

How to sell a Range Rover, step by step

  1. Gather the details: VIN, mileage, options, photos of every angle and the interior, and your service records.
  2. Get written offers from two or three buyers who handle Range Rovers. Send each one the same details so the offers are comparable.
  3. Inspection. The buyer confirms the car matches your description, either through a local inspector or a detailed video call.
  4. Agree the final number and paperwork. Get the price, any deductions, the transport arrangements and the payment timing in writing.
  5. Payment, then pickup. Funds (or your loan payoff) are confirmed, then an enclosed transporter collects the car and you sign over the title.

Most Range Rovers sell locally. For SV models and classics, the right buyer may be out of state; ask for enclosed transport and confirm it's included in the offer.

Selling a Range Rover with a loan or lease

Most Range Rover owners who sell still have a loan or lease on the car. That doesn't stop a sale; it adds one step.

  1. Get a payoff quote from your lender or leasing company. Ask for a 10-day payoff figure and the exact payment instructions.
  2. Give it to the buyer. A professional buyer pays your lender directly and sends you whatever is left. That's your equity.
  3. If you owe more than the offer, you pay the difference (negative equity) before the title can transfer.
  4. For a lease, check first whether your leasing company allows a third-party buyout. Some only let the original dealer buy the car.

Keep copies of the payoff confirmation and the lien release. The full loan and lease walkthrough covers the paperwork in more detail.

What to have ready

  • Title, or your lender's details if there is a loan
  • Valid registration and a government-issued photo ID
  • All keys and fobs
  • Service records, organized by date
  • Owner's manuals and books
  • Warranty or Land Rover Approved documents
  • Complete service records
  • A recent inspection report, for out-of-warranty cars

Common questions

Why do Range Rovers depreciate so fast?

High new prices and buyer concern about repair costs both play a part. Complete records, warranty coverage and a clean inspection help you get the top of the market.

Should I sell my Range Rover before the warranty ends?

Many buyers will pay more for a car with warranty left, so it's worth comparing offers before your coverage runs out.

Is a Range Rover Sport SVR worth more?

Yes. The SVR is the high-performance version and carries a clear premium over standard Range Rover Sports.

Can I sell a leased Range Rover?

Usually. Get a payoff quote and check whether your leasing company allows a third-party buyout.
