How to sell your Cadillac

Escalade, Escalade-V, a Blackwing sedan or a Lyriq: where each Cadillac sells best, what buyers check, and how to compare offers.

The Escalade is one of the most in-demand large luxury SUVs in the country, so most Cadillac owners will find the sale straightforward. The V-Series cars are a different story. The Blackwing sedans and the Escalade-V have enthusiast buyers who pay for the right specification, especially a manual gearbox.

Whichever you have, collect more than one offer. They vary more than you'd expect.

How buyers look at each Cadillac model

  • Escalade and Escalade ESV

    1999–present

The best-known Cadillac. Buyers look at generation, trim (Premium Luxury, Sport, Platinum), the long-wheelbase ESV and options like Super Cruise.

  • Escalade-V

    2023–present

The supercharged V8 version. It carries a clear premium over standard Escalades.

  • Blackwing sedans

    2022–present

The CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing, both offered with a manual gearbox. Manual cars are the most sought after.

  • CTS-V and ATS-V

    2004–2019

Earlier V-Series cars. The manual CTS-V Wagon (2011–2014) is a collectible.

  • Lyriq and other EVs

    2023–present

Electric models. Buyers ask about battery warranty and compare closely with new-car incentives.

What moves the price

  1. Model and trimEscalade trims, V-Series and Blackwing versions. Make sure every offer is for your exact car.
  2. Transmission (V-Series)Manual Blackwing sedans and CTS-V Wagons carry premiums.
  3. OptionsSuper Cruise, upgraded audio, rear-seat entertainment and performance packages.
  4. WarrantyRemaining factory or certified coverage adds value.
  5. Condition and modificationsEscalades are often customized. Aftermarket wheels and wraps narrow the buyer pool, so keep original parts.

How to sell a Cadillac, step by step

  1. Gather the details: VIN, mileage, options, photos of every angle and the interior, and your service records.
  2. Get written offers from two or three buyers who handle Cadillacs. Send each one the same details so the offers are comparable.
  3. Inspection. The buyer confirms the car matches your description, either through a local inspector or a detailed video call.
  4. Agree the final number and paperwork. Get the price, any deductions, the transport arrangements and the payment timing in writing.
  5. Payment, then pickup. Funds (or your loan payoff) are confirmed, then an enclosed transporter collects the car and you sign over the title.

Most Cadillacs sell locally. Blackwing sedans and the CTS-V Wagon often sell to enthusiasts out of state, who will arrange transport.

Selling a Cadillac with a loan or lease

Most Cadillac owners who sell still have a loan or lease on the car. That doesn't stop a sale; it adds one step.

  1. Get a payoff quote from your lender or leasing company. Ask for a 10-day payoff figure and the exact payment instructions.
  2. Give it to the buyer. A professional buyer pays your lender directly and sends you whatever is left. That's your equity.
  3. If you owe more than the offer, you pay the difference (negative equity) before the title can transfer.
  4. For a lease, check first whether your leasing company allows a third-party buyout. Some only let the original dealer buy the car.

Keep copies of the payoff confirmation and the lien release. The full loan and lease walkthrough covers the paperwork in more detail.

What to have ready

  • Title, or your lender's details if there is a loan
  • Valid registration and a government-issued photo ID
  • All keys and fobs
  • Service records, organized by date
  • Owner's manuals and books
  • Window sticker showing trim and options
  • Service records
  • Original wheels and parts if the car has been customized

Common questions

Do Escalades hold their value?

Better than most large luxury SUVs. Demand is strong, though values still move with mileage and the wider market.

Is a manual CT5-V Blackwing worth more?

Usually, yes. The manual is the version enthusiasts seek out.

Is the CTS-V Wagon a collectible?

Yes, especially with the manual gearbox. Few were built, and they sell well at enthusiast auctions.

Can I sell a leased Cadillac?

Often. Get a payoff quote and check whether your leasing company allows a third-party buyout.
