Land Rover covers two very different markets. The current Defender is in strong demand and sells easily. Classic Defenders are collector vehicles with their own rules. Everything else is priced much like other luxury SUVs, with warranty and service records doing most of the work.

How buyers look at each Land Rover model
Defender
2020–presentThe current Defender 90, 110 and 130, including V8 versions. Demand is strong, and options and accessory packs affect the price.
Classic Defender and Series
1948–2016Collector vehicles. US-market Defender 90 and 110 models from the 1990s are especially valuable. Imported examples need correct paperwork, so buyers check the title and import documents closely.
Discovery
2017–presentThe seven-seat family SUV. Priced on mileage, warranty and service records.
LR3 and LR4
2005–2016The boxy predecessors to the current Discovery. The LR4 has a loyal following, and service history is essential.
Discovery Sport
2015–presentThe compact model, with a deep local market.
What moves the price
- WarrantyRemaining factory or Approved Certified coverage is one of the biggest factors in value.
- Service recordsComplete records. Buyers are wary of gaps on a Land Rover.
- Mechanical conditionAir suspension, electronics and no warning lights. On classics, frame and bulkhead rust.
- Paperwork (classic Defenders)Clean title, correct VIN and import documents for vehicles brought in from abroad.
- ModificationsOverland builds, lifts and engine swaps narrow the buyer pool unless well documented.
How to sell a Land Rover, step by step
- Gather the details: VIN, mileage, options, photos of every angle and the interior, and your service records.
- Get written offers from two or three buyers who handle Land Rovers. Send each one the same details so the offers are comparable.
- Inspection. The buyer confirms the car matches your description, either through a local inspector or a detailed video call.
- Agree the final number and paperwork. Get the price, any deductions, the transport arrangements and the payment timing in writing.
- Payment, then pickup. Funds (or your loan payoff) are confirmed, then an enclosed transporter collects the car and you sign over the title.
Most Land Rovers sell locally. Classic Defenders often sell to buyers out of state, who will want a specialist inspection and will arrange transport.

Selling a Land Rover with a loan or lease
Most Land Rover owners who sell still have a loan or lease on the car. That doesn't stop a sale; it adds one step.
- Get a payoff quote from your lender or leasing company. Ask for a 10-day payoff figure and the exact payment instructions.
- Give it to the buyer. A professional buyer pays your lender directly and sends you whatever is left. That's your equity.
- If you owe more than the offer, you pay the difference (negative equity) before the title can transfer.
- For a lease, check first whether your leasing company allows a third-party buyout. Some only let the original dealer buy the car.
Keep copies of the payoff confirmation and the lien release. The full loan and lease walkthrough covers the paperwork in more detail.

Common questions
Do Land Rover Defenders hold their value?
The current Defender has held value better than most Land Rover models, and classic Defenders are collector vehicles. Values depend on specification, condition and paperwork.
What paperwork do I need to sell a classic Defender?
A clean title and, for imported vehicles, the import documents showing it was brought in legally. Buyers check these closely.
Should I sell before the warranty ends?
Many buyers pay more for a vehicle with warranty left, so compare offers before your coverage runs out.
Is the LR4 still in demand?
Yes. Well-kept LR4s with service records have a loyal following.
